Hillcrest Community Park

The History of Hillcrest Community Park

Hillcrest Community Park was originally part of a large rancho called Rancho del Paso de Robles. In 1834, after Mexico gained independence from Spain, the Mexican government granted the rancho to Juan Bautista Alvarado. Alvarado later became the Governor of California. The rancho remained in the Alvarado family for several generations.

In the early 1900s, the Alvarado family began selling off parts of the rancho. In 1918, the City of Concord purchased a portion of the land and established a city park. The park was named Hillcrest Park in honor of its location on a hill overlooking the city.

The park was expanded several times over the years, and in the 1960s, a community center and swimming pool were added. Today, the park covers nearly 30 acres and features a playground, picnic area, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a variety of other amenities.

What You'll Find at the Park

At Hillcrest Community Park, you'll find a little bit of everything. There's a convenient parking lot right next to the entrance, so you can easily access all of the park's amenities. Once you're inside, you'll find a playground perfect for young children, as well as a basketball court and a picnic area where you can enjoy a meal or snack. The park also has a walking trail that is popular with joggers and walkers alike.

If you're looking for something a little more adventurous, be sure to check out the water play area, which features spraying fountains that are perfect for cooling off on hot days. Hillcrest Community Park is also home to a Skate Plaza, which is adjacent to the main parking lot. The Skate Plaza has been open since 2006 and offers beginner and intermediate skateboarders a place to practice their skills.

Events at the Park

In addition to being a great place to play and relax, Hillcrest Community Park is also host to a variety of events throughout the year. One popular event is the Easter Egg Hunt, which takes place every spring. This event is open to children 12 years of age and younger, and always fills up quickly! Other annual events at the park include Movie Nights in the Park and the holiday-themed Santa's Workshop event.

The Fitness Center

The park also features a 5,000-square-foot fitness center that is open to the public. The fitness center has a variety of cardio and weight-training equipment, as well as a group exercise room where you can take classes like yoga and Pilates. A day pass to the fitness center costs $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children, but you can also purchase a monthly or annual pass for a discounted rate.

Matteo's Dream Playground

In 2015, the park underwent a major renovation that added a new playground, dubbed Matteo's Dream Playground. This playground is fully accessible and features a variety of play structures and equipment, including a merry-go-round, swings, and slides. The playground is named after Matteo Wilsey, a local boy who passed away in 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Matteo's family was heavily involved in the planning and construction of the playground, and it is now a cherished spot in the park.

If you're looking for a great spot to take your pup for a walk, Hillcrest Community Park is the perfect place. Not only are there plenty of open spaces for your furry friend to run around in, but there's also a leash-free dog park where they can socialize with other dogs. And if that's not enough, there's even a playground for the kids! So what are you waiting for? Give us a call today and come visit Hillcrest Community Park - you won't be disappointed.
